What is the Internet..!

The Internet is the biggest network of computers in the world that connects millions of computers and computer networks together for the purpose of sharing information and facilitating communication.

The internet is also called global network of computers. Starting with a few users, it now has millions of users all over the world.

Birth of the Internet

In 1970s, the US Defence department established an agency for research and analysis in the field of defence. This agency was named Advanced Reasearch Projects Agency (ARPA). ARPA set up a network of computers between different offices of defence department to exchange and share important information. This network of computers was called ARPANET.
Later ARPANET was opened for educational fields also. Many universities and institutions started using this network of computers for educational purposes. ARPANET kept on growing continuously leading to the birth of the Internet.

As we have seen, the Internet can be used for a host of Interesting actwnties. Yet, we have to understand that just like the real world, the Internet is not completely safe. The Internet makes it possible for people to do things anonymously or by using false identities. This opens possibilities for misuse of the services provided by the Internet. Cyber crime like credit card fraud has now gained international attention. There are also worrying occurrences like cyberbullying or worse, cyber-stalking, wherein a person whom you do not know can send you mails and chat messages that may disturb you.
