Fire doused at PID building in Islamabad

A fire which engulfed the Press Information Department (PID) building in the federal capital
A fire which engulfed the Press Information Department (PID) building in the federal capital on Wednesday was doused with no loss of life being reported.According to reports, the blaze started from the sixth floor and engulfed the rest of the building in a matter of minutes.

Sources said a gas cylinder explosion led to the fire in the building.

Nine fire tenders were rushed to the site to extinguish the fire.

According to eyewitnesses, some of the people present inside the building escaped through stairs whereas others jumped from the windows. Others were rescued by the fire-fighters.

Located near the PID building are also offices of the Gilgit-Baltistan Secretariat, Zakat Audit and Election Commission of Pakistan.

Officials from the Capital Development Authority also reached the site of the fire.

Fire Department officials said the presence of papers, ink and other chemicals inside the building fuelled the blaze.
